(BizJournals) — Custom Control Concepts is making 3D printing the linchpin of its success in building high-performance entertainment systems for the largest personal jets in the world. Its systems can be found aboard VIP version of Boeing 747s, 777s and 787s, as well as smaller 737s, and Airbus equivalents. Bill Weaver, president and CEO, said the Kent, Wash.-based company operates nine large 3D printers, or “additive manufacturing” units, and depends on them to fabricate most of very customized structures for Boeing VIP aircraft entertainment and cabinet management systems.

The 3D printers can create unique housings and mounts for speakers, video screens and control centers. The fast-growing 130-person company supplies its systems for outfitters of high-end luxury jets around the world. Last year it added 15,000 square feet of production space, bringing the total to 80,000 square feet, and Weaver expects to hire another 20 people this year.
